I am part of Skywarn in Palm Beach County, Florida. Many members rely on this instrument to provide accurate information to the National Weather Service.

I was extremely impressed with the over-all utility (performance, appearance, physical set-up and quality of construction) of the Kestrel 2500. I would highly recommend this instrument for all intended uses. The Kestrel is a very sturdy, durable instrument. The clear plastic over the digital read-out has remained scratch free though being operated in a very sandy/dusty environment. I used the instrument during the worst sandstorms that I encountered in Iraq and it performed flawlessly.
I carried this item with me constantly and used it several times per day for several months. Whenever I would start using it, those around me would come over and ask what it was and if they could try it. The protective case is very durable and easy to remove and replace. The Kestrel is well-designed for ease and comfort of use. The physical set-up makes for a comfortable fit to the hand while using control buttons and reading screen (buttons positioned in the correct position relative to rest of unit for easy operation).
The light works very well. The molded depression within the plastic on the back of the unit fits the index finger of the operator perfectly and provides for a firm grip. The small size and light weight of the unit are very desirable. The battery life for this unit under frequent use is extended.

Lately I've been carrying the Kestrel 2500 wind meter. It measures wind speed so I can adjust windage for a long-range shot, but it also includes a clock to time my setups. Other functions include an altimeter, barometer and thermometer. Plus, the instrument calculates wind chill, which is crucial to determine how to dress for winter predator hunts. The instrument is waterproof and floats, and it fits in your palm. The display information is large and easy to read, plus the Kestrel has backlighting for dawn and dusk applications. It weighs practically nothing, makin git easy to tote along on any hunt. (4/07)

Two minutes with Kestrel’s 2500 Pocket Weather Meter and we were sold. Its wind speed measurements (average, max and gust) were accurate, but that’s just the beginning of what impressed us. It also displays temperature, windchill, barometric pressure (with pressure trend indicator) and altitude. And the best part? It’s easy to use. Just three buttons – and one of ‘em is for power. I’ve used Kestrel products several times over the past decade or so, when they were more clunky. Today’s Kestrels are much more shapely – they feel like something that should be grasped with pride. The electronic controls are remarkable simple and straightforward. Indeed, there are only three buttons. Additionally, for you manual-dexterity pros, the Kestrel comes with a computer interface that lets you turn your meter into a data logger and weather station. Finally, all Kestrels come with a protective, hard-plastic sheath-style cover and neck lanyard. (4/05)

Anyone who is concerned about the weather will like this unique handheld multi-tool. The size of a small cell phone, the 1.5-oz. 2500 measures speed, temperature, windchill factor, barometric pressure, and altitude. Its 3-oz. hard case is so tough that you can literally run over it with your car. (6/06)
