Kiteboarding is a dangerous activity at the best of times, with a major cause of accidents being unexpected wind conditions. The Kestrel 1000 is the perfect tool to accurately measure the precise wind speed, eliminating potentially dangerous guesses. Ideal for sports use near the water due to its robust and waterproof construction, it's the ideal equipment to pick the perfect kite to enjoy any day on the water.

This is an excellent portable weather station. We take it camping, boating, even hiking. Very small and lightweight. Fits in your pocket. Batteries last forever. For anyone who is interested in the weather, this is a must. Cost is certainly prohibitive, but it is a highly technical gadget that monitors wind speed, temp, barometric pressure, altitude, heat index, humidity, wind chill, time and date. You can set it up to take readings on a specified interval and can view the data in graphical format or by the numbers. Highly recommended product. We've had ours for about 2 years and have not had any problems with it. QUALITY!

I used the Kestrel 1000 in University for technical measurement in the wind tunnel and it's really accurate. It's also much cheaper than other wind meters!
I suggest it for every kind of technical wind measurement!

Having used a variety of portable hand held wind detectors over the past few years the old Kestrel 1000 works amazingly. For weather/environmental conditions for research data it has working wonderfully, hopefully we can update to one that has a data logger soon. Keep up the great product

I fly model planes and checking the wind is important. The Kestrel 1000 is a very basic and reliable device that continues to attract positive attention wherever I use it. We've compared it favorably to other brands costing far more. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a quick, convenient and reliable read on the wind.

This has to be the handiest "gadget" on the market. Superbly accurate, easy to operate, light weight yet extremely sturdy in construction. Here in Florida I expect to use it more that the average consumer might, but with full confidence of it's performance.

An excellent product. I wanted to be able to measure wind speed at over 5000 ft altitude in New Mexico. This product works! It's good to see something that works as well as advertised.

I looked at other wind speed meters before I decided to purchase the Kestrel 1000, but the Kestrel beat them all in quality!

I tried a friend's Kestrel 3000 and it works like a charm so got one of my own, much better than a cheaper one that I had bought earlier

I love my Kestrel! It is the best thing I have ever purchased ever. The sales staff is the best - especially the two Katies - they rock!

Having used small pocket wind gauges for several years, the Kestrel Pocket Win Meter was a pleasant surprise. The manufacturer, Nielsen-Kellerman...has, in my opinion, produced a superior product. It accurately displays wind speed, average wind speed and maximum wind speed, and it will measure these in knots, meters per second, kilometers per hour, miles per hour, and on the Beaufort Scale. It will even float...I found the wind meter very easy to use... It comes with a nice plastic protective case and easily stows in your shirt pocket.
Other advantages are the large impeller and the large liquid crystal display... I consider [the Kestrel Wind Meter] the pick of the pack. (9-97)

I have always been bothered by my lack of real knowledge of wind velocity. Aside from sticking my hand out the window of a moving car, I really have had no idea how fast the wind was really blowing. Recently I bought a pocket Wind Meter, called a Kestrel, from Nielsen-Kellerman. It is a hand-held, waterproof, three-ounce...machine that tells you exactly how fast the wind is blowing. I see it as very useful tool for the long-range rifleman and hunter. (2/98)
