Kestrel® Pocket Weather® Meters
Partner with Global Fire Monitoring Center to Aid in Worldwide
Fire Prevention and Research
BOOTHWYN, PA … Kestrel
Pocket Weather Meters has partnered with the German based Global
Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC) to facilitate advances in worldwide
fire prevention and research. Fire is a factor in all vegetation
zones throughout the world – while some times an essential
natural process, other times fire is a threatening, destructive
natural disaster.
In recent years, the severity and occurrences
of extreme wildfires has increased globally, significantly impacting
local economies and human health and safety. The GFMC staff is involved in
fire prevention and suppression techniques and education throughout
the world, notably in SE Asia, Africa, Siberia and Central Europe. “Using
Kestrel Pocket Weather Meters on-site has taken away logistical
headaches for obtaining accurate weather data under adverse field
conditions,” said Johann Goldammer Head of the Global Fire
Monitoring Center.
Established in 1998 and located in Freiburg, Germany, the GFMC
is an information gathering and monitoring facility that assists
agencies involved in land-use planning, fire and disaster management,
and policy development. The GFMC is backed by prestigious international
institutions such as: the International Decade of Natural Disaster
Reduction (IDNDR), the United Nations Educational and Scientific
Organization (UNESCO), the World Bank Disaster Management Facility
(DMF), the World Conservation Union (IUCN), the World Health Organization
(WHO), and the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO).
Nielsen-Kellerman’s Kestrel Weather division
has been researching, developing and manufacturing technically
advanced portable weather instruments for ten years and owns
multiple patents on their unique features. Kestrel Pocket Weather
Meters are employed by thousands of users in hundreds of different
activities around the world. The Kestrel family includes 10 models
